Sand is highly skilled in community building, visual merchandising, art promotion, exhibition planning/design and installation. Her involvement in previous art initiatives include: consultation, organizational planning and implementation for profit / non-profit organizations, galleries, community institutions and individual artists. All positions have been in a management or leadership capacity.

From 1998 - 2008, Sand operated artSPACE@16 in Malden, and S.T Gallery in Boston's Fort Point district. Her non-commercial gallery artSPACE@16 was awarded The BEST OF BOSTON ® HOME AWARD 2008 in the "BEST OF ART, Gallery, North" category by Boston Magazine, and voted BEST ART GALLERY for A-List 2007 conducted by WBZ-TV and CityVoter in Boston.

In March 2006, artSPACE@16 was selected by Raphaela Platow (Former curator of the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts) as one of Platow’s 11 favorite Greater Boston Galleries in 2006 conducted by the Boston Globe Magazine.

In June 2005, artSPACE@16's website was recommended by Community Arts Network APInews as a good model grassroots for advocating city redevelopment through the arts.

In recognition of exceptional professional accomplishments and unwavering support for the citizens of Malden, the Malden YWCA honored Sand with a YWCA Tribute to Women Award 2007 for her outstanding skills in strengthening the community, served as role model, improving the lives of women and girls, and in effectuating positive change in the Malden Community.

She also received Recognition Proclamations from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Senate Office; the Commonwealth of Massachusetts the House of Representatives;  The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Middlesex Sheriff’s Office; The Malden Mayor’s Office and The Malden City Council in recognition of her contributions and service made to the community to nurturing the ideals of creativity and art, and for being the role model for others to emulate; inspirational generosity and community efforts to eliminate inequality and empower women.

The same year, in 2007, Sand was nominated by her peers for a Commonwealth Awards for Outstanding Contributions to Arts and Culture in Massachusetts in recognitions of her volunteer work in community building and art advocacy. She was honored Ms. Malden Art in 2006, and was nominated as a candidate for the Citizen of the Year conducted by the Malden Observer, Malden, Massachusetts in 2003.

In addition to the above, Sand received grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council (2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, and 2007) and the LEF Foundation’s Contemporary Work Funds (2006 and 2007) to support artSPACE@16’s exhibitions and programming.

Sand brings a unique fusion of arts administration, insight, and her talent as a visual artist to artSPACE@16, S.T Gallery and the ARTS community-at-large. After the closing of artSPACE@16's physical gallery space in summer 2008, Sand continues her volunteer work to advocate for the arts community on the internet. She currently handles the web site design and maintenance for artSPACE@16 ONLINE.  Her most recent initiative created in April 2009, Making The Art Seen, is a virtual gallery that features artist interviews, biographies, and images.
